Info on I-540

There is a lot of debate over whether or not I-540, or parts of it, should be a toll road. My biggest concern is that it will require EZ Pass, which means people without credit cards or debit cards would be barred from using the road!

This road was first foreseen as necessary in 1968. THe process was set in motion in 1984.

December 2005
The Mayors of five southern and western wake county towns requested the North Carolina Turnpike Authority (NCTA)
to evaluate the feasibility of constructing the I-540 Western Wake as a toll road.

February 2006
The NCTA initiated a traffic and revenue study to evaluate the financial feasibility
of tolling I-540 Western and Southern Wake from NC 55 at Morrisville to I-40 south of Garner.

March 2008
NCTA held a public hearing and presented this handout:
